The mission of the Pickering Soccer Club is to create and enhance opportunities to participate, develop and excel in the sport of soccer. The Club’s Green and Gold Soccer Academy confirms this commitment with the development of players through this program.
The Academy’s philosophy is quite simply to build on the powerful legacy of the Club’s programs by bringing together the outstanding skills of our technical coaches with our enthusiastic and talented young players (ages 7-18) striving for excellence. The program is designed to facilitate player development and to identify and promote talented players to play at the highest levels, whether that is club, provincial, national, university or even professional.
Young players in the 7-18 year age group are at the optimal stage of their athletic development for tactical and technical requirements in association with physical maturity and development.
The Green and Gold Academy is structured to follow the Long Term Player Development Program (LTPD) under the guidance and support of the Canadian Soccer Association and the Ontario Soccer Association. LTPD provides the framework for high-quality programs that ensure enjoyable lifelong playing opportunities for players of all levels of ability, as well as development pathways for elite players who pursue excellence.
The focus of the Green and Gold Academy program is on the following elements of player development:
· Physical – Following appropriate guidelines in areas of agility, balance, coordination, endurance, strength and flexibility training.
· Technical – Learning new skills or maintaining the skills already acquired.
· Tactical - Basic and advanced tactics.
· Mental – A focus on having fun, healthy competition in order to meet the challenges of the game at different stages of development.
“We teach these young players the fundamental techniques and skills that they will need to be creative with the ball, skillful in executing game strategy, and efficient in their movements on the field” states Club Head Coach, Tony La Ferrara. “We believe strongly in giving back to our community and that is manifested in our Green and Gold Academic program.
