Competitive Goalkeeper Academy
|
Led by Academy Goalkeeper Instructor, George Azcurra, who played for the Rhode Island Stingrays, Boston University and Toronto Croatia, Pickering Soccer offers a summer and winter training program for all Competitive and Recreational league goalkeepers, designed to develop the unique needs, skills, and abilities of children who 'play in net'. The objective of the program is to develop all goalkeepers (GK), helping them to achieve post secondary and professional playing aspirations. “Goalkeepers will receive superior physical conditioning, which includes lateral, speed, power and explosive movements.” states Mr. Azcurra. “The programs are designed to allow the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological qualities of the goalkeeper to be enhanced and refined through specialized age appropriate training. We are dedicated to helping committed players realize their potential and reach their desired level of performance.”
Young goalkeepers have different physical and psychological needs than older goalkeepers. This program introduces the proper fundamentals of goalkeeping to insure safety and will focus on establishing “good habits” while performing the correct techniques.
The program is committed to refining the goalkeeper’s technical proficiency and tactical awareness in game situations while continuing to improve both the physical and psychological elements of goalkeeping.
The program is open to all Competitive and All Star players. Click here for the 2011-12 Winter Program registration form and details. For additional information, please email Roz Lavoie, GK Academy Manager, at projects@pickeringsoccer.ca
